Eco Bricks
An eco brick is created by trapping single use plastic inside plastic bottles to bring positive gain to the biosphere. This plastic is only going to pollute our planet as the material will never breakdown, making it an ideal material for building. When finely crafted with no dents or air bubbles, it creates a solid and reusable building block. On average, 100 plastic food wrappers can fit in a 600ml bottle (Waste aid). I plan to stuff every single piece of single use plastic into one eco brick for my entire journey. This seems like it should be easy as I plan to use little single use plastic, however, when food shopping/ getting street food I am almost certain I will come across some plastic that is unavoidable.
The idea of an eco brick amazes me in that it is possible to serve as a reusable building block, for actual construction. I am apart of the Facebook page, Ecobricks UK, which is a UK based group who allow you to post the brick you have made to them so that they can use the material in building. This is my backup plan for when I return to the UK, if I don't cross a community who is in need of my brick. Lonely planet have explained that an organisation in Guatemala called 'Hug it Forward' have created 38 eco brick schools, so I hope to cross at least one when travelling the country.
